Time for a stupid pet peeve of mine that drives me up a wall. I see this a lot in my development when I go for a walk/run. Why does no one understand how to park correctly?

Kinja'd!!!

You park like you do on a regular street, not pull up like you're at a 7-11. I know it's stupid but this really bugs the shit out of me.

Ok, rant over.

One of our neighbors did this in our old neighborhood. They were the house at the end of the cul de sac. Everyone else did what you're supposed to do.

But because they did it in a large truck, it made it difficult for everyone else in the cul de sac to get into and out of their driveways. Also made the mailman and the trash guys angry, because they couldn't get to each house. They even got ticketed once when the trash guys called it in. They kept doing it afterwards... What's really odd was their driveway went from the cul de sac, down the side of their house to a garage in the basement, and actually had a parking pad in front of the house. They would stop in front of their own driveway and park there. If they literally pulled forward 20 feet they could park in the parking pad no problem.

I don't think it's a question of them knowing how, it's probably a question of them not caring and being so lazy about it. Besides, parking properly, and having to deal with the incorrect parked cars could require some forward/reverse actions just to get out depending on how close you your driveway they did it.

I live on a cul-de-sac, but on the straight bit just before it opens. I feel sorry for the folks at the bottom, because there's no street parking in front of their homes.

Erm what?

I live on a cul-de-sac, and NO ONE ever parks like this. Mainly because if they did, those of us with longer than 12 foot trailers (read: EVERYONE) couldn't maneuver around to back into our driveways without hitting something. (Everyone also has dollies for cars, so if someone was stupid enough to do this, they would easily find their car moved someplace where they didn't leave it. And the neighbors would help move it too.)

Do you just live in a neighborhood with a bunch of morons?

There's a post from back a few days where it asks you to list out the coolest car on your street. I actually know what everyone drives, and outside of the one guy with a Hyundai Sonata and a couple Hondas and Toyotas, I have the only European cars on the street. And the only European bike.

However, I'm also the youngest homeowner there as well. By about 35 years.

How have you not seen this before? I always see this in cul de sacs. The other brilliant move is parking like you're the median, ie in the middle of the cul de sac. But cul de sacs suck regardless. Through streets ftw.

I haven't seen this in any of the 3 states I've lived in (and been on cul-de-sacs in) - NJ, SC, and MI

I had a hero come into mine and park on the inside curb. Properly, but on the inside curb (Green space in the middle). I have seen where people park in the middle of a paved centre like a mall. It works, but really? I have a hydrant one one side of the driveway so I don't get a lot of cars parked there. I do get the same idiot time and again who hangs his ass 4 feet into my driveway though. I love my car or he would be on the lawn.

They park on the outer part, but not next to the circle in the middle.

Yeah, and there's 3 garage spaces down the hill (2 car garage on the side facing the top of the photo, one carport underneath the porch on the other side). They owned 2 cars. One would park there, the other would park at the very top of their driveway. It was a young couple with 2 young kids, so no reason they couldn't walk downstairs to go to their cars.

The houses on either side of them were elderly couples. When backing out of their driveways, they would have to make an odd turn around the parked truck in order to face out of the cul de sac. Our house was the one on the corner. Doesn't look like much in that picture, but our driveway / garage was pretty hard to maneuver around. There's a two car garage there, with a 3 car wide driveway (if you look closely, you can see the difference in pavement where we added the extension to the inside corner). My parents would park their trucks in the extension and middle space, with my brother's car behind my dad's truck in the middle space. My cars ('75 Beetle and '07 Civic) would be in the garage. The Beetle would be in front of the middle driveway space. So getting the Beetle out of the garage, I'd have to start turning inside the garage, back between the Civic (in the garage) and the truck, then turn the other way to get out of the driveway, and then do a really weird left-right turn to get off the curb from the driveway, and around the parked car. I'd have to do that every morning, sometimes in six inches to a foot of snow.

To make the cul de sac even more difficult, occasionally the guy in the other house in the cul de sac (top center) would bring his horse trailer home from work. He'd park it appropriately, against the curb, and would always give everyone fair notice (plus he was an old family friend, and we got along great)... But between a badly parked truck, a truck with a horse trailer, and our ridiculous driveway, it was always a fun game trying to park our cars.

...Not to mention the few times we had to back a trailer into our driveway.

EDIT: thebigbossyboss's comment below reminded me... sometimes the badly parked truck would be about 5-6 feet from the curb (at least), essentially parked in the middle of the cul de sac. It wouldn't have been too big of an issue if they pulled all the way forward, but I guess they were afraid of birds pooping on their truck or something.

that's insane.

Its like the people across the street from me. 2 car garage behind the house, enough room to park 3 cars in the driveway.

They park 1 car in the driveway and put 2 cars in the street, typically 1 in front of theirs and 1 in front of mine. It's a skinny street you can barely fit between there cars.

THANK GOD he got rid of his Super Duty. F350 Super Crew, with the 8 ft bed. Only thing that could have been worse is if it was a dually wheel.

I actually do this when I visit my uncle, only because every single person on his cul de sac parks this way and there's typically no good spaces left to parallel park, especially if more than one house is having a party at the same time.

Seen it a couple times. Pure laziness, usually the same people's garages are full of garbage as well.
